FLEXA to the test
Before any of our FLEXA products are made available to you, it under-goes several rigorous tests. One of these, the TÜV-test, is perhaps the toughest in the business. TÜV crash tests all FLEXA beds to be sure it will live up to the standard of safety.
TÜV receives the FLEXA bed, just like any consumer would receive it. Then they unpack it and each piece of wood is checked for insect damage, mold, and splinters. Everything is examined, thoroughly – slats, every joint, every bolt, every corner, even the size of boreholes and the distance between ladder steps are inspected. The checklist is mile long and nothing goes by unnoticed. Next step is that they check the assembly instructions; they too has to live up to certain standards. Hereafter, they assemble the bed according to it, checking if all bits and pieces are there in the process. Once fully assembled, they check every single gap size to make sure that no child can get stuck, and then they leave the bed alone to “acclimatize” for fourteen days.
After fourteen days, the real “fun” begins. Now every conceivable scenario is re-enacted; every possible situation involving one child, two children etc. is simulated:
They strap the bed into a specially made frame and perform a long series of tests, always with much more force than any normal use would ever subject the bed to. For example: the bed frame is subjected to 100 kg of pressure seven different places; hydraulic arms twist and turn bed in every direction and they perform a dynamic test with a force of 100 Newton 10.000 times.
If there is something they find the least bit unsatisfying, even though it is within official standards, they contact FLEXA to work out a solution. It is in fact a continuous process where TÜV and FLEXA work closely together to make the safest quality bed possible.
However, once our bed has passed all tests, we have not seen the last of the testing institute. They inspect our production facility to make sure we can actually produce all beds exactly like the approved test bed, and they follow up each year. Only then can they issue out our quality certificate. Yes, it may be brutal, but it is necessary when superior quality and maximum safety is two of FLEXA’s most important promises to you.
